Ohayo! Since most of you wonderful followers probably don’t know the first thing about me I thought it would be nice if today, I did a post telling you a bit about myself.

The first thing I should tell you is that I tend to ramble, so don’t say I didn’t warn you if this post end up being loooong. My name isn’t actually Shiori, it’s Harriet. I chose ‘Shiori’ because it’s a Japanese word that means ‘to weave a poem’, which I thought was a lovely name for my blog.
I’m a very happy person; overly happy according to my boyfriend. I find cheer in everything and as my best friend recently said to me ‘not every day is a happy day, but there is happiness in every day.’ This sentence absolutely sums my life up.

As I’ve mentioned in my posts I’m an absolute sucker for cute things. This is why I buy so much Korean makeup and daft things like novelty pens, hairclips, mirrors – you name it. If it’s cute, I’ll buy it. I also sing and talk along with everything. Even I realise it’s annoying but how is it physically possible to play Beautiful Katamari and not sing along with all the songs?

The theme of my blog should at least tell you that I have a huge passion for Oriental culture. I’ve always been fascinated by Japan but my love for the amazing country has grown hugely over the years, and this blog just aims to share that passion with anyone out there who’ll listen (or read).

Those who do know me know how much I adore spending my time playing video games and watching anime. Because of my love of films I’m just finishing my second year of a University course in TV & Film Production. I’m an editor at heart and I’m always really pleased when someone asks me to edit their film for them (it must mean I’m fairly good at it!) Part of me does wish I’d done a game related course though, I wish there was a course that combined both!

As well as going to University, I work part-time in a book shop and I also do a lot of volunteer work. In the past I’ve worked on BBC events, music festivals and I’m now a reading teacher for young children and a website designer/film-maker for a local company. So you can tell I like to keep busy! Although I’m quite an outgoing person and I love taking on new projects, I really keep myself to myself. I don’t like being surrounded by a lot of people and I’m a bit of a square so I never go out drinking. My best friend and I much prefer going out for a meal or a day out and actually remembering what happened!

When I’m not busy with working, I do my best to learn Japanese. So far I’ve learned hiragana and katakana and I’m working on kanji now. I’ve found that mnemonics really help me to learn quickly, so I try and go through them every day. Once I’ve graduated, I’m applying to teach English in Japan which would just be amazing if I was accepted. Although me and my boyfriend do worry what will happen if one of us is accepted and the other isn’t.

I think maybe I’ve rambled on enough now, so here’s a list of my favourite things. I’ll try and keep it short and sweet but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
